Chalkboard

Chalkboard

36" × 36"
Spray paint, acrylic, and paint pen on canvas

Life isn’t written once. It’s written, erased—sometimes fully, sometimes partially—and written again.

That’s a chalkboard. You put something down for the world to see and judge. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn’t. Sometimes you don’t even like it yourself. So you wipe it away—completely, or just enough to try again—leaving traces of what was there before. Sometimes you erase what worked. Sometimes you get close, but not close enough. So you keep going.

Over time, the surface carries all of it: the attempts, the corrections, the missteps, and the parts that finally hold.

This painting follows that same process. The lines are thinking made visible—drawn, adjusted, reinforced, or abandoned. Some stay. Some fade. None arrive perfectly. The texture, the wear, the structure—it’s all built through repetition, trial and error, and the willingness to start over.

“Chalkboard” is about that cycle. Picking yourself up, taking what you’ve learned, and moving forward—even when it’s messy, even when it takes more tries than you expected.

What you see in the end isn’t clean, because life isn’t clean.

What remains isn’t perfect — but it’s earned. Something that works because you stayed with it long enough to make it work.

And even then, it’s never final. There’s always more to learn.
